THE SHOPAHOLIC SOLILOQUY
By Kirsten Okenwa
To buy, or not to buy, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to shop
The clothes and jewelleries that call my name,
Or to say ‘nah’ when spontaneous shopping beckon,
And by declining break my heart.
To ignore, to suffer-
The agony of a day gone without shopping;
More clothes, a little here, a little there.
To shop, to acquire, ay there's the rub;
For ‘tis an affair, a pleasant one with stuff,
Stuff for my walk-in closet:
To add more and more; shoes, boots, bags.
For what is life without these?
Jewels to adorn my neck, dazzling rings too.
‘Tis utmost bliss; to gaze, to savour my possessions,
My bounty, my joy, my desire.
To save, or not to save, my mind ponders,
To hoard cash for a rainy day?
But, I think on the joy, exquisite joy of shopping;
To acquire more, to possess,
A thrill now, a shiver over that glossy bag.
And thus, the wisdom of saving fades away,
For off I flounce to my shopping spree.
